THE HISTORY OF THE ACT
-
On October 28th 1919 Andrew Volstead, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in the United States of America pushed through the 'National Prohibition Act' banning the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol nationwide... What a Dick!
For 14 long years, Americans drank more alcohol (illegally) than they ever had before and in 1933 Prohibition was abolished. As you all know, the number of bars in Christchurch has halved since February, and although its not quite as bad as prohibition, its bloody close!
The Volstead Trading Co. is a concept devised by a few Christchurch locals to create an environment for social interaction that contradicts the traditional bar scene.
With a focus on exclusivity, subtlety and a relaxed atmosphere, The Volstead Trading Co. is bringing back the glory days of the 1920's Speakeasy, a bar for those in the know, away from the common scene.
